The income tax return (ITR) filing deadline for FY 2020-21 for individuals has been extended, from the normal deadline of July 31, 2021 to December 31,2021

Deadline For Filing ITR (FY21) Is Extended To December 31st

Following due dates have been extended which We believe in wake of the challenges put forward by the new Income Tax portal.

  • Non-Audit tax returns – Extended to December 31, 2021
  • Tax Audit reports – Extended to January 15, 2022
  • TP Report – Extended to January 31, 2022
  • Audit tax returns – Extended to February 15, 2022
  • TP tax returns – Extended to February 28, 2022
  • Belated tax returns – Extended to March 31, 2022 from December 31, 2021.

However, no extension has been announced under Companies Act, 2021 for holding AGM. Hence, Companies will still be required to compile their financial statements and present to their shareholders by Sept 30th, 2021.

The government on Thursday extended the deadline for most individuals to file their income tax returns (ITRs) for FY 2020-21 from September 30, 2021 to December 31, 2021. Individuals whose accounts are not needed to be audited and who typically file their income tax returns using ITR-1 or ITR-4 forms, as appropriate, will have their deadline extended.
The decision was based on challenges highlighted by taxpayers and other stakeholders in filing Income Tax Returns and other audit reports for the Assessment Year 2021-22 under the Income Tax Act, 1961, according to a statement from the Finance Ministry.

“On consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers in filing of Income Tax Returns(ITRs) & Audit reports for AY 2021-22 under the ITAct, 1961, CBDT further extends the due dates for filing of ITRs & Audit reports for AY 21-22. Circular No.17/2021 dated 09.09.2021 issued,”

I-T Department tweeted on Thursday.

The deadline for filing an audit report under any provision of the Act for the fiscal year 2020-21 has been extended until January 15, 2022.

The deadline for persons engaged into international transactions or specified domestic transactions under section 92E of the Act to provide a report from an accountant for the preceding year 2020-21 has been extended to January 31, 2022.

The IT Department has agreed to extend the deadline for filing the AY 2021-22 Return of Income to February 15, 2022, as well as various other deadlines.

The deadline for filing the Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was previously set for December 31, 2021, has been pushed back to February 28, 2022.

The deadline for filing a late or revised income tax return for the fiscal year 2021-22 has been extended until March 31, 2022.
